Walk Walk Walk till you reach the TOP: Manikgad - Part 1
Laziness strikes and I am 2 weeks late posting
The alarm strikes 1 hour early as compared to the routine schedule that too on a Saturday this indicates trek time. After 2 snoozes it was time to get moving but as always laziness, I was not willing to get out of bed, courtesy of wake-up call from Dimple I was finally out of bed and ready to move.
6:15 am left from Dombivli towards Vashi to meet and pick up other trek members. As usual, one of my friends Sugandha was late and had to wait for 45 minutes. To my surprise, Shilpa and Dimple were prompt and reached the pick-up spot before I could reach. Considering 45 mins earlier they were on time... Being wicked.
As I was waiting for Sugandha thought of calling our trek leader Ravi, he dint answer my call but as per Ravi's reputation he is never expected to be late. After few minutes I thought I should again try calling Ravi and he answered it this time and one more surprise struck Ravi was sleeping and he thought we are going to Manikgad on Sunday so he was enjoying his holiday sleep. One wake up call was enough for him to get ready.
In the mean time Shrikant & gang had already reached Vashi and waiting for us, we asked them to move ahead to Panvel ST Stand and wait there. Sugandha, Dimple, Shilpa and Me headed to Vashi Railway station to pick up Ravi. As girls with me were hungry they filled in their stomach with some hot medu vadai, uttappam followed by tea & coffee. To mention Shilpa had to wait and wait for her pineapple juice which never arrived but in that wait Ravi arrived. HAHAHAHA. Finally we started to Panvel.
Traffic snarl as soon as we left Vashi and continued till Juinagar. Me on Driving seat, Ravi as Navigator and 3 beauties on back seat. By now we were good 90 mins behind schedule. Passing through traffic we were still maintain to delay of 90 mins till Panvel. Brief stop at Panvel and we headed for base village Wadavli near Rasayani.
After maneuvering through heavy traffic on NH 4 we all assembled at Kon Phata Toll Naka. Our base village was still 12 kms ahead. We all stopped as Kishan who was to join us a little late had taken Express Highway. By the time Kishan joined us at Kon Phata we were already thrown off schedule by 3 hours and now we were almost time strapped to complete trek. Without wasting any time we all moved further towards base village and reached by 12 noon. After reaching base village we all pounced on to home made Poha prepared by our host.
As we were all enjoying Poha we also had some lighter moments by picking on bunny of our trek Shilpa. Stocking up our stomach with Poha we all geared up for our climb and set off to conquer Manikgad at 12:30 pm.
Ravi, kept on mentioning that we had challenge on our hand of reaching the top and descending back to base village before sunset.
Will be posting Part 2 soon where you will read about me thinking of giving up in first 30 mins. Shilpa's do or die effort to complete this trek. Dimple loosing her lipstick. Kishans gum boots. Shrikant descending with open mouth shoes. Girls running behind Sagar for cool clicks with DSLR and RAVI's pocket action camera.
Part 2 coming soon
